Vintage hotel lighting at Artist Residence

Commercial

Our partnership with Artist Residence continues to grow! The self-billed eccentric bunch of fun and friendly places to eat, drink and sleep (we couldn’t agree more) now spans London, Brighton, Oxfordshire, Penzance and, most recently, Bristol. Keep an eye out, and you’ll soon notice an eclectic selection of our vintage lights in all five locations.

Thankfully the hotel group hasn’t lost any of the charm of its original grass-roots beginnings at its flagship in Brighton. Inspired by the vibrant local art scene, each outpost features art as part of the context of its location. That, and the context and history of the building itself together with location all play into the design of each hotel. The interiors are always down to earth and homely, with surprise moments of eccentricity and patina that (if you know us and our lights here at skinflint) we just can’t get enough of. Reclaimed and vintage pieces feature heavily, with our restored vintage lights going hand-in-hand with the whole look, feel and ethos of the Artist Residence brand.

Step into the Brighton hall apartment and you’ll find two of our Antique GECoRAY wall lights throwing light down onto the open plan kitchenette below, their brass detailing tying in with brass elements in the wider scheme. In Oxfordshire, one of our 1950s Czech machinist wall lights makes for the perfect adjustable task light by the bunk bed (no fighting please). In Penzance, our enameled Hungarian factory pendants are utilised as statement pieces in both the bedroom and living areas. While a variety of vintage Czech glassware has found home in the bathrooms (find similar here). In London, a pair of our reclaimed 1950s US traffic lights (similar here) illuminate the counter of the Cambridge Street Kitchen restaurant, while polished aluminium machinist lights salvaged from a factory in the former Czechoslovakia provide lighting above the banquette seating. Meanwhile in the bedrooms it’s classic British racing green enameled pieces including a 1940s REVO machinist light by the bed, and a 1930’s R.A.F. hanger pendant providing task lighting above the armchair (similar here).

We highly recommend popping in for a drink and a bite to eat. Or even better, staying over for a night (or three).
