Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde's fascination with the ephemeral has led him to master the art of creating his own clouds for which he uses a smoke machine, moisture and dramatic lighting.

Personally there is something magical but slightly disturbing about these images. The clouds are clearly incredible in their own right, but seeing them trapped inside these beautiful spaces gives me a sense of sadness. In reality they disipate very quickly and are documented by the artist in these stunning photographs reminiscent of the Dutch Masters paintings.
