Equire about this product

Origin: Japan

Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from Japan. The majority of the products we do reclaim and restore are salvaged from Japanese cargo ships which, after serving long lives at sea, are decommissioned and dismantled at the world’s ship breaking yards in India and Bangladesh. Often produced in Brass, Copper or Aluminium a single ship may contain many thousands of the same light fixture.

Restoration

Once a light has undergone preparatory treatment and the degraded surface has been removed, we begin the journey to bring it back to life. At skinflint we try not to repaint surfaces, instead sticking true to the heritage and preserving the individuality of each piece. So, with ferrous metals such as iron and steel, we linish the surface on large rotating wire wheels to add depth and grain, highlighting any original casting details and bringing out the light’s character through surface and patina.
