Equire about this product

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Different materials require different processes. At skinflint we are fascinated by Non-standard surfaces and patinas, that’s why we tend not to repaint our lights as this can make them look too ‘new’ and they lose some of their of individuality. During restoration ferrous metals such as steel will have a clear lacquer powder-coated onto the surface to prevent oxidisation. All forms of surface sealing are designed to protect and enhance the surface of the lights.

About the LED lamp

This product is fitted with the latest in linear LED technology. The LED bulb, with an average life of 50,000 hours, is located within an etched diffusion sleeve to prevent any glare and creates an even distribution of warm light (2700K or 3000k). Supplied with either a switched or dimmable remote module (Leading/Trailing edge, Dali/DMX or 1-10v). Please contact the studio for more information.

Whats the difference in brightness between a LED bulb, a fluorescent bulb and a traditional 60w filament bulb?

In simple terms, bulb brightness is measured in lumens. Lumens (denoted by lm) are a measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from a bulb or light source. As a comparison, this LED bulb is 2475lm a fluorescent bulb of the same length is 2460lm and a traditional 60w filament bulb is 800lm.

Manufacturer: Benjamin Electric

The Benjamin Electric Manufacturing Company was founded by Reuben Berkley Benjamin in Chicago, Illinois in 1898. With the popularity of its lighting, the company expanded rapidly throughout the USA and Canada and then finally abroad, to England - more specifically London - which is where our shades were manufactured. Benjamin was a prolific inventor, mostly in the field of electric lighting. One of his most influential designs was the R.L.M. enamel shade - an influence so profound that this design is what we now recognise as the classic industrial enamel.
