Concept Design
In the first instance a detailed study of the project with the design team and client is undertaken from which our lighting designers establish the brief, design intent and project scope. From these initial meetings we prepare preliminary lighting concepts and sketches showing different types of lighting effects and their relationship to structural, architectural and interior elements. The overall scheme is then presented to the design team and client for comment and approval.
Design Development
Upon approval of the concept our lighting designers develop the design and prepare preliminary schematic lighting CAD plans for assessment of the lighting designs and co-ordination with building services. These plans show the luminaire and lighting equipment locations, identifications, dimensions and lighting control channels.
At this point we also prepare outline luminaire and lighting control system specifications and preliminary electrical loads, together with a preliminary cost estimate of the lighting design package. This information is coordinated with the architect and other consultants sufficient to permit the assessment and evaluation of the lighting designs.
Detail Design & Documentation
Once the overall design has been approved the lighting designers will prepare final schematic lighting CAD plans, light fitting specifications and, where relevant, detail drawings. The complete specification is then presented in an electronic format and includes descriptions, typical manufacturer's reference numbers, lamp type, wattage, finish, mounting position, quantity and typical manufacturer's addresses. It is intended that this information be integrated into the appropriate architectural and electrical engineering specifications and documents for general issue.
Implementation
Once the electrical installation is in progress, our lighting designers liaise with the various contractors to ensure that all the design details are correctly integrated. We review shop drawings, submittals and samples as relevant to the scope of works and offer advice and co-ordination services to the client, architectural consultants, engineers, contractors and manufacturers to facilitate equipment purchasing, production and installation.
Final Focusing & Commissioning
The final commissioning involves overseeing the focusing of lighting fittings and programming of lighting control systems. We will inspect the installed lighting installation and supervise the focusing of lighting equipment and the final programming of the lighting control system to produce the agreed lighting scenes and conditions.
Lighting should never be an afterthought introduced to solve a problem emerging at the end of a project, but a fundamental part of a three dimensional design process. It is lighting which ultimately provides a space with its unique identity.
