Speed Of Light
Some years ago now, when we were still based in London, Chris and I along with three equally crazy friends, bundled ourselves into a people carrier and drove through the night up to the Isle of Skye. It wasn't just a moment of madness, we had heared about an incredible art event that was taking place up there produced by the award winning Scottish public art collective NVA, an acronym of Nacionale Vitae Activa a Roman phrase describing 'the right to influence public affairs.'
This ground breaking group have plans afoot for a new piece taking place in August 2012 entitled Speed Of Light. It's an intriguing collision of the worlds of Art and Sport and will take place over three weeks bringing Edinburgh's iconic mountain Arthurs Seat to life.
Runners will activate specially designed light-suits at night illuminating the hillside as they run through the landscape. The audience will also participate by the movement of their specially designed light generating walking staffs that they will use as they ascend to the summit to witness the spectacle of the runners below.
It will be amazing to watch and they are currently looking for runners to participate too!
